Conference Overview
Well-developed nonparametric methods are an essential part of modern data analysis, and an important and growing research topic within statistics. The focus of the conference is on nonparametric and semiparametric modeling and functional estimation methods. The program consists of a short course, invited plenary talks and a contributed poster session.
The conference will bring together some of the top researchers in this area, and the topics of the presentations will range from general overviews of relevant statistical material to more specialized presentations of current developments. The focused yet relaxed nature of the conference will allow for concentrated discussion and interaction among the participants. Following the conference, there will be opportunities for various outdoor activities in the area.
In order to encourage students to participate, we are planning a student poster competition, with the winners receiving travel support awards. The short course on semiparametric regression by Matt Wand will provide a hands-on introduction to the topics in the conference and is particularly suitable for students and other people interested in learning more about smoothing methods.
The conference is co-sponsored by the Department of Statistics at Colorado State University and the ASA Section on Nonparametric Statistics.

AM – 12PM - Rocky Mtn Raptor Program.
7:30am-12:00pm; Limited to 15 participants; Cost $15 or less depending on number of participants with all proceeds going to defray the costs of RMRP bird handlers and tour leaders. Please be sure to eat breakfast before we pick you up. The hike will be approximately 3 miles. It will be mostly flat well designated/ maintained trails along the Poudre River and several ponds and wetlands. Bring good walking shoes or hiking boots, sunglasses, light jacket, water bottle, and camera. If you have binoculars please bring them along too. I will have a couple sets of binoculars (but not enough for everyone). I'll also have at least one spotting scope.The day begins at the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program headquarters in north Fort Collins where we will tour the facility, learn about their mission, and - best of all - meet some of the permanent resident raptor ambassadors that, for medical reasons, cannot be re-released into a wild habitat. From the RMRP center we will head out to the north entrance of the Riverbend Ponds Natural Area to begin birding. Our trek ends at the Environmental Learning Center where the RMRP program houses several of the larger raptor ambassadors (Red Tailed Hawks, Turkey Vultures, Golden and Bald eagles...etc). |

AM – 12PM – Hike to Horsetooth Falls. No Cost unless a van or bus is necessary then small cost. An easy hike suitable for all ages, at Horsetooth Mountain Park. About 2.25 miles round trip, we will leave the hotel after breakfast and return before noon. Bring sunblock and water. Click on picture for more information. |

AM – 3:00PM – Whitewater Rafting. Cost is $47 per person. Hotel pick-up 8:45am, return 2:15pm. Time on river is 2.5-3 hours. Bring sunblock, water. Minimum age 14-18 depending on the state of the river. Click on picture for more information. |

3:00PM - Brewery Tour. Tour No Cost. 10 Person Limit. Afternoon fun in Fort Collins! The New Belgium Brewery tour with beer tasting at end of tour. Carpool or walk or bike to New Belgium from the hotel, to meet there at 3pm, maybe finish with dinner at a brew-pub? Click on picture for more information. |

ALL DAY - Medicine Bow Peak Trail. No Cost unless a van or bus is necessary then small cost. A challenging hike up to 12,000 feet in the Snowy Range of the Rocky Mountains in Southeast Wyoming. In late June there still might be plenty of snow, so wear hiking boots with wool socks, windbreakers with layers underneath. We will leave the hotel at 7:00am, to breakfast in Laramie (at the Overland Restaurant) at about 8:15. Then we drive west about 35 miles to the trailhead. Bring plenty of sunblock and water, as well as snacks such as granola bars. We can stop for a late lunch in Centennial, Wyoming. We will return to Fort Collins in late afternoon.
